Meet Don’t Quit Ambassador Kendrick Parker

We are thrilled to have Don’t Quit Ambassadors to help spread the messaging about our nonprofit and bring mental health awareness in the community. Meet Kendrick Parker.
What is your name?
My name is Kendrick Parker.
Where do you work?
Self Employed. I own a State Farm agency.
Tell us about yourself.
I’m from Plaquemine, Louisiana, which is right outside of Baton Rouge. I graduated from Southern University in Baton Rouge in 2007. I spent seven years in bank management before moving to Fort Worth in 2014 to open my business. I love helping my customers and my community so I’m always looking to participate in community events. I try to run at least three races per year on top of other things I’m involved in.
Have you participated in the Don’t Quit Half Marathon & 5K before?
Yes, last year.
Why are you running in this year’s Don’t Quit Half Marathon & 5K?
I’m running this year because mental illness needs more attention. I have several close family members that suffer from depression and are diagnosed bipolar. These issues are costly and affect so many people. I feel that my continued support by running can help bring more attention to the issue.
What does “Don’t Quit” mean to you?
To me, it means keep going. No matter what, keep fighting for your health, happiness, and well-being.
Do you have any tips for someone who may be struggling with mental health issues?
Talk to someone. Whether it’s a friend, family member, or professional, open up to someone. In 2016, I witnessed a friend of mine get shot eight times and died in front of me. I immediately began seeing a therapist because even though I felt like I would be fine on my own, I knew that there was a possibility of me becoming depressed.
What is your favorite inspirational quote that keeps you doing?
“Want shows up on conversation. Expectation shows up in behavior.” -Les Brown
